The City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County funded a grant in 2024 to begin a robust community engagement effort to understanding the community’s interest in a Black Voices Museum. Envisioned as the centerpiece of a revitalized downtown in the heart of Fayetteville and a worldclass cultural destination, the Black Voices Museum will become a vital space to honor and preserve the rich history, culture, contributions, and profound impact of Fayetteville and Cumberland County residents on the African American experience. From literature, arts, and music to social justice, civil rights, and reconciliation, local stories will help illuminate the past and create a more hopeful future for generations to come. The long-time owners of 122 Person Street (in the heart of downtown Fayetteville) are excited about the opportunity for this property to be the future home of an important community project. Engagement is the core of this project, and the community’s stories are what will shape the future of this exciting endeavor.
